Airwayz first UTM provider to achieve U-Space Service Provider (USSP) certification
Airwayz, a top Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM) provider, has secured the U-Space Service Provider (USSP) License and Certification from the Israeli Civil Aviation Authority (CAAI). As the first UTM company in the world to achieve this accreditation, Airwayz is set to redefine aerial operations, emphasizing safety and reliability.
Advancing Drone Safety in Israeli U-Space
With a focus on enhancing safety and security, the CAAI has chosen Airwayz as the pioneer recipient of the USSP certification. This official license empowers aviation regulators to authorize drone operations in Israel. Starting November 29, 2023, approved commercial drone operators must broadcast their live locations and connect with a USSP via a UTM provider. Airwayz, as a key industry player, will utilize its dynamic UTM technology to consolidate and monitor data, providing real-time insights into drone activity for regulatory authorities.
Eyal Zor, CEO and Co-founder of Airwayz, acknowledges the honor of being selected by the CAAI. He states, “This license certifies us to offer U-Space services across all of Israel and provides hands-on experience in managing real-time drone data, monitoring traffic, scaling operations, and achieving high commercialization in real-life scenarios. As a trusted partner of the Israel National Drone Initiative (INDI) project, Airwayz is well-positioned to deliver outstanding UTM services within Israeli U-Space.”
Zor further notes, “Our adaptability in providing UTM services quickly and safely led to our selection by the CAAI for various projects in Israel. Our commitment to transforming drone operations globally remains unwavering.”
Certification Process
The USSP certification process involved rigorous testing to meet aviation safety standards. Airwayz has proven its capabilities in providing mandatory network identification, flight authorization, geo-awareness, and traffic information services in compliance. The company also offers non-mandatory monitoring and weather services, showcasing its commitment to comprehensive drone operator support.
As a leading UTM provider and collaborator on European drone projects, such as the U-Space airspace prototype in collaboration with Port of Rotterdam, Airwayz is recognized globally. This certification underscores Airwayz’s commitment to promoting safe and efficient drone operations, with further pursuits of European USSP certifications on the horizon.
